Best of 2012

2012 has been a great year for Simply Events! We participated in 3 bridal shows, were a part of 5 couples big days, threw a spooktacular Halloween extravaganza, managed a corporate lobster bake outing, and coordinated over 10 corporate events! Talk about a busy year for Simply Events.  I am thrilled to be gaining so much ground in only my 3rd year of business and I am super excited to see what 2013 has in store for me.  I know 2013 is going to be unparallelled for Simply Events, as we already have more weddings lined up, bigger plans for corporate events, and much more!

Creative Escort Cards

I don't know about you, but I personally love how creative you can get with your escort card display.  There are so many ways to politely guide your guests to their table and below are some of my favorites!

Now, you may be wondering what an escort card is and how it differs from a place card. In short, an escort card simply communicates to your guests that you have chosen the table for them.  That way they do not have to figure out where to sit.  A place card is in addition to an escort card and tells your guest which seat to sit in at that table.  If you chose to forgo having escort cards, there would be no reason to have place cards.

Make sense?! I hope so! If not, feel free to shoot me a question!

As promised, here are some of my favorite escort card displays.

Emerald Green Wedding

Are you looking for a way to incorporate the fashion trends into your dream day? There are several ways to go about adding fashion-forward elements into your wedding. I always suggest that my clients choose 3 things that are most important to them.  Whether it be the dress, the food, the music, the decor, etc.  and do not be afraid to splurge on those three elements.  These areas would also be a great opportunity to bring in those fashion-forward pieces.

To get you started, check out the Pantone website.  Just a few weeks ago, they announced that emerald was the 2013 color of the year for all things fashion.

In the wedding world, there are many places you can tie-in emerald.

Here are some areas you may consider incorporating lively, radiant, lush green, color of the year; Emerald, into your dream day!

Holiday High-Top Tables

Cocktail tables are not just for weddings, these high-top tables can be incorporated into any event.  The great thing about these tables, in addition to serving as a functional piece of the party, is you can also dress them up with fabulous linens!

For the Christmas party Simply Events was a part of last week, we brought in two high-top tables for guests to mingle around.  They also served as a great spot for kids and adults to eat cookies and drink hot chocolate!

Instead of just simply plopping two wooden tables in a room and calling it a day, we decided to spruce them up with one of my favorite event design elements - linens!

Since this Christmas party was for a charitable organization, The Dragonfly Foundation, we chose to dedicate this space to them; even the tree was decorated in their colors (blue & gold).

Want to create this look?! Here is the recipe for one table:
  • One 132" round satin royal blue linen
  • One 90x90" white ringlets overlay
  • One poly-cotton sash (to get that super cute cinched in look)

Hot Chocolate Bar

A hot trend this holiday season is having a hot chocolate bar at your holiday party! The Claus for a Cause event we did on Tuesday, December 4th was no exception to this trend.

Some must haves for your hot chocolate bar include:
  • Hot chocolate, of course! We decided to go with individual hot chocolate packets. This made it easier for the guests to get the proper amount of cocoa mix.
  • Toppings! We chose to keep it simple and offer three toppings.
    • Crushed peppermints, mini marshmallows, and shaved white chocolate
  • Creative names & creative labels for your toppings. We created these adorable topping labels and used these unique candy cane card holders!
  • Spoons and/or tongs to fish out the delicious toppings!
  • Stir sticks.  We had regular stir sticks as well as chocolate dipped candy canes.  The kids loved these chocolate dipped stir sticks!
  • A decorative element for the table/bar!
  • Hot water, duh!! :)
  • A pendant banner! We made this Hot Cocoa banner using ribbon, scrapbook paper, card stock for the letters (which were made with stencils), and decorative snowflake stickers!
Here are some pictures of our Hot Cocoa bar!!

Candy Cane Card Holder

Christmas is my favorite holiday and this year I was fortunate enough to take part in a wonderful charity event, The Lane's First Annual Claus for a Cause which benefited The Dragonfly Foundation.  The event was a HUGE success and all the kids, both young in age and young at heart, had a great time.  Simply Events was asked to be the official party planners of this event and without hesitation, we said yes!

We were so excited to help with all of the logistical coordination needed in preparation of the event as well as on the day of the event.  Over the next few weeks, we will sharing with you some of the details of this party! Up first, the candy cane card holders!

From start to finish, these candy cane card holders took approximately 25 minutes to make (I made five total) - maybe a bit longer since the candy canes would break every now & then! But they were well worth our efforts and everyone was raving about how cute and creative they were!

Supplies needed: for one candy cane card holder
  • Hot glue gun
  • 3 candy canes
    • You can use the regular size or the mini candy canes.
  1. Take your hot glue gun and place a line of glue on the inside of one of the candy canes.
  2. Then quickly line up the other candy cane at the appropriate angle and hold together for about 30 seconds.
  3. Take your hot glue gun and place a line of glue on the back of the two candy canes you just glued together.
  4. Then quickly place your third candy cane in that line of glue.
    • This third candy cane is what will allow for your card holder to stand on its own.
  5. Hold this candy cane in place for another 30 seconds to ensure that it is set.
  6. Voila!! You have candy cane card holder!
Super simple & super cute!
